Cheap and Easy Building of Unique Bird Houses

It seems that bird houses have been with humans for many, many years. This alone is justification to believe that they shall continue to adorn lawns and tree branches for years more. However, as with all forms of evolution and simple change, even the homes of birds tend to find themselves losing here and gaining there aspects that eventually make for unique bird houses.

The construction of unique bird houses entices the use of imagination. The reasons for this imaginative construction might be a few. One, maybe a crafts-maker doesn't have the money for traditional materials. This is common and as there is such an abundance of cheap, even free building materials in this world, finding alternate materials is quite easy.

Another reason for the desire to construct unique bird houses stems from boredom. Often, tradition is seen as distasteful for numerous people. The desire to create something different, never before seen has a powerful draw and should never be underestimated when glinting from the eyes of a person that builds crafts.

So with this second issue, we'll precede first. Unique bird houses can be of basically any design, provided they meet one fundamental proposition: that they are a form of shelter, i.e. a house. Thus, a bird's home can actually look quite un-house like. Let's face it, birds probably don't know a house from a horse, only that one provides an entrance, an exit, and shelter (sometimes with the added bonus of a little food inside).

So to be truly unique, creating a house shaped as a shoe, a car, an animal, even a human head, is not only creative, but functional. Birds will flock to such a strange design as quickly as to one that looks like a house.

You can get creative with the materials. In the garbage one can easily find cinder blocks, which work well as a stabilizer for the pole of the house; old bicycle tires, which make for a good, waterproof roof; scraps of wood and metal to support the roof; even heavy laminated cardboard can work well for the body of the house (though may not be so good in the long-run). Again, the imagination's limitations are the only line of demarcation between "can" and "cannot."
